Real Estate "Open House" signs installed on Common Area require prior written Application to and approval of the Board of Directors and the Architectural Review Board. If approved, not more than two (2) Open House signs can be placed on Common Area.

Common Area is applicable only to GPCA-controlled property and does not apply to private property. The uniform sign regulation is viewable on the GPCA Website

Single signs are permissible; signs placed side-by-side or stacked on top of each other are not allowed. The following is an example of an unapproved sign configuration.

Isle of Wight County Sheriff's Office Message Regarding Golf Cart Usage Within GPCA

August 24, 2022

There have been several concerns brought to the attention of the Sheriff’s Office regarding children operating golf carts within this community. Virginia Code regulates the use of golf carts on public roadways. The roads within Gatling Pointe are public. Golf carts may only operate on a public roadway by licensed drivers on 25mph roads and then ONLY if the local government passes an ordinance allowing such operation and lists the roads they are allowed to operate upon. Isle of Wight County does not have an ordinance allowing golf carts to operate on public roadways.

Understand that this is not authorized by current laws/ordinances and is specifically prohibited by law. The parents of these children operating these carts may be liable for civil damages if a crash occurs when their child is operating a golf cart on a public roadway. Also, the parents may face criminal charges for allowing their children to participate in this activity.

The Sheriff’s Office recommends that all parents understand the inherent dangers involved as well as potential civil liability and criminal charges that may occur when their child is allowed to operate a golf cart on a public road. We ask that all parents handle this within their family before a tragic event occurs that requires an emergency response to injuries and that will require the Sheriff’s Office to take enforcement action.

The Sheriff’s Office does not actively seek nor aggressively enforce golf cart usage unless there are specific complaints regarding unsafe or reckless behaviors. Please understand that if a specific complaint of reckless behavior is reported we are obligated to investigate it and seek criminal charges as may be appropriate.

PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW YOUR CHILDREN TO OPERATE GOLF CARTS ON PUBLIC ROADS WITHIN THIS COMMUNITY.

Open Burning Information

Residents are reminded of the following key dates as they apply to open burning in Isle of Wight (IoW) County:

During the period between October 1 and February 14 of each year, open burning is allowed
During the period between February 15 and ending April 30 of each year, burning is permitted between the hours of 4:00 PM and midnight
During the period between May 1 and September 30 of each year, all open burning is prohibited within the county

Gatling Pointe is located outside of a Development Service District and open burning is governed by Chapter 7 of the IoW County Virginia Code of Ordnances. Specifically, Section 7-15 provides guidance on permissible open burning; sections 7-17 and 7-18 should also be noted. Additionally, the following conditions must be met during any instance of open burning:

Leaf burning shall be attended constantly until fire is completely extinguished
Water, sand, dirt or fire extinguisher shall be available at the burn site in quantity sufficient to completely extinguish the fire. (A charged water hose, one that is connected to a water source, is preferred and rake(s) and shovel(s) should also be available to control burn pile)
Burning shall not be conducted closer than 300 feet of any woodland, brush land, or field containing dry grass or other flammable material during periods of open burning
Burning shall not occur in roadside ditches or on any public or private road on which smoke could impede drivers vision
Burning shall not be conducted during windy and/or dry periods
Open burning is permitted for camp fires or other fires that are used solely for recreational purposes, for ceremonial purposes, and for outdoor non-commercial preparation of food
Open burning of leaves and tree, yard and garden trimmings that are collected by the County through regular roadside collection is prohibited
Open burning is not permitted for the disposal of household refuse by homeowners or tenants.

Considerations such as burning wet leaves and health factors should be given to fellow residents and above all else, safety must be given the highest priority.

Yard Sale Details

The Gatling Pointe Community Yard Sale is scheduled for Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 8 am – 12 pm – rain or shine (no rain date). To register, click below – a minimum of 10 participating homes is needed to host the community sale.

Here is what to expect:

Advertising:

An ad will be placed in the Smithfield Times to run on Wednesday, May 17 issue
Digital postings (e.g., Craigs List, Facebook Marketplace, etc) will be made on Thursday, May 18
Signage will be placed at 4-6 area intersections on Thursday, May 18
Directional signs will be posted in the neighborhood Friday evening, May 19 (this is one reason why we’d like to know who is participating)

Tips for Yard Sale Folks:

Post specifics of what you have digital for sale sites especially if you have big or specialty items and mention your garage sale on May 17
Be prepared for early birds looking for specific things
Wipe things down so they appear clean and tidy
Make things easy to see and group into areas (e.g., mechanical stuff, kids stuff, kitchen and household, etc.)
Put prices on things (top or front) so people don’t have to handle things too much
If you have clothing and plan to hang it up, use hangers you can part with
Have plastic bags on hand for check out and newsprint or tissue for wrapping breakables
Carry your money on you, don’t have a cash box
For you, sunscreen, bug spray and beverage of your choosing on hand
